Didi Hamann thinks that it would be a bad idea for Jurgen Klopp to bring Steven Gerrard back

"That's the last thing Klopp needs"

Not all Liverpool fans are over the moon at the potential return of Steven Gerrard to Merseyside.

Former Reds midfielder Didi Hamann believes that the club shouldn’t bring Liverpool’s favourite son back, whether it be in a playing or training capacity.

Since the minute that Gerrard had confirmed his Anfield exit earlier this year, speculation has been rife that he would rejoin Liverpool in the MLS off-season and reports on Wednesday suggested that talks between Gerrard and new Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could mean that the iconic midfielder would be pulling on the red jersey once more.

And while that left most supporters giddy with excitement, Hamann would advise Klopp to think twice before welcoming Gerrard back.

“Klopp has had a decent start and what he needs now is peace and quiet,” Hamann said on talkSPORT’s Colin Murray show.

“We all know what Steven Gerrard did for the club, but even if he does train at the club, if a central midfielder gets injured, the first question at the press conference on a Friday will be, ‘are you going to give him [Gerrard] a contract?’

“And that’s the last thing Klopp needs, constant speculation about Steven Gerrard. I’m not sure even training with them is a good idea.”
