David De Gea’s snub to Real Madrid fans in L.A will please Manchester United supporters

United fans will be encouraged by this

SportsJOE

It just wouldn’t be summer without a bit of David De Gea to Real Madrid speculation, would it?

Although it’s been relatively quiet on that front so far, the inevitable happened on Thursday evening when a flurry of news reports suggested United were braced for a bid for their goalkeeper from the European Champions.

United are currently in Los Angeles, where they’ll begin their summer tour of the US on Saturday when they face LA Galaxy. As they prepare for that game, they’re using the city’s UCLA facilities as a base for their training.

Coincidentally, Real are also in LA as they prepare to kick off their preseason tour and, you guessed it, are also using UCLA as their base.

With plenty of supporters of both clubs around the campus facilities, it’s no surprise to learn that some Real Madrid fans attempted to get De Gea to sign one of their team’s shirts.

Witnessed by the Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst, the United goalkeeper chose to blank them.

This, as we’re all more than well aware, is as good a sign as any that De Gea will absolutely definitely not be returning to the Spanish capital in time for the new season… Or at least that’s how many of those that have since retweeted this news will want to interpret things.

United face Zinedine Zidane’s men in Santa Clara in the penultimate fixture of the American leg of their preseason tour. The two sides will then meet next month when they contest the European Super Cup in Skopje, Macedonia.

United fans will be keeping fingers crossed that De Gea is still their number one when that game kicks off.
