Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson has secured his immediate future after signing a short-term contract with Wigan Athletic.
Gibson was handed a trial at Wigan after he was released by Sunderland back in March following drink driving charges.
In May, he was sentenced to a two-year community order and received a 40-month driving ban.
The former Manchester United midfielder has not played competitively since new year’s day but he looks set to resume his career with Wigan in the Championship this season after impressing on trial for Paul Cook’s side,

Commenting on the acquisition of Gibson, manager Paul Cook said:
“Darron is a talented footballer, who has played at the highest level and is a good addition to our squad.”
