Steven Gerrard being flirted with by goalscoring machine

Darragh Murphy

Darren Bent would be prepared to turn down the offer of a deal which would allow him to continue performing media duties in favour of a move to Rangers.

Bent spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at Burton Albion and has been training with the Brewers to maintain his fitness after being released by Derby but he would clearly prefer to get a taste of Scottish football before he hangs up his boots.

The 34-year-old appeared on Sky Sports at the beginning of this season and Burton Albion were prepared to offer Bent a pay-as-you-play deal to allow him to juggle his punditry career with his football.

But the veteran forward sounds very enthusiastic about a potential switch to Ibrox and a reunion with former England teammate Steven Gerrard.

Bent appeared on talkSPORT ON Tuesday, when the subject of a move north of the border was broached by host, Jim White.

“100 per cent!” the free agent admitted.

“You’re talking about one of the biggest clubs in football in Rangers.

“To get the opportunity to go up there and play – definitely!”

Bent has scored over 200 goals in a storied career which has seen him lead the line at clubs like Spurs, Aston Villa and Sunderland.
