Cristiano Ronaldo continues to tease Man United fans with latest comments on Wayne Rooney

"Maybe"

If you gave Manchester United fans the choice to sign any player in world football, Cristiano Ronaldo would be at the tippy-top of their wish list.

Ronaldo will arguably go down as the greatest player to ever pull on a United jersey and rumours of a return to Old Trafford crop up every time a transfer window creaks open.

And the Real Madrid forward has heaped new hope on that prospect by claiming he could end up playing alongside former teammate Wayne Rooney once more.

“I miss playing with Rooney,” Ronaldo said in a BBC documentary about the England striker, as quoted in The Sun. “Maybe we will play together again one day.”

Rooney and Ronaldo struck up a fruitful partnership, as well as a close friendship, when Rooney signed from Everton in 2004 and Ronaldo revealed the nickname that he gave the striker.

“He was the kid of England, everyone loved him.

“He was so powerful I was calling him Pitbull. The power of Wayne Rooney is his mentality and strength and he never stops.

“He’s a fantastic team player and he scores! He’s a fantastic boy and he helped me a lot when he came to join us in Manchester.”

The pair had a pretty public spat after Ronaldo played his part in getting Rooney sent off when Portugal beat England in the 2006 World Cup but Ronaldo claims that they are over all the drama that came from that controversy.

“I don’t regret what I did because when you play for your country, you defend your colours so… I didn’t do nothing bad.

“He understood my point of view, let’s speak about the present, let’s win trophies, let’s play together like we did.

“We were still friends. People create big dramas that never exist.”
