The first half ended in concern and confusion.
With seconds remaining in the televised game between Bournemouth and Southampton, the game suddenly stopped as referee Mike Dean was alerted to a commotion at the touchline.
With confusion reigning as to why the play had not been resumed, Dean was seen speaking to both the management teams, as well as various stadium officials.
It transpired that fourth official Kevin Friend had collapsed at the side of the pitch and hit his head as he fell. Details are still to emerge as to what caused the loss of consciousness.
What we do know is that Friend was left with a bloody face due to a cut, and that he was brought to, albeit groggy after the incident. He was rushed to the treated in hospital.
We certainly hope he’s well.
