Learn from the best.
If there’s one thing we can’t have enough of in Ireland, it’s players coached to a Premier League standard. Whether you’re togging out for a struggling-but-loveable Junior side on a Sunday morning or regularly competing at a high standard, there’s always more you can learn from seasoned pro managers like Tim Sherwood and David O’Leary.
Having been involved with Tottenham Hotspur’s coaching team for over five years, he was given the role of head coach after André Villas-Boas had been dismissed. As head coach during the 2013/14 season, he guided Spurs to their best ever league win record and went on to manage Aston Villa.
Having made a record 722 appearances for Arsenal as a player, David O’Leary went on to manage both Leeds United and Aston Villa in the Premier League. With 20 years of experience as a manager, whatever team wins this competition would be wise to listen up for any pearls of wisdom from the former Republic of Ireland centre-back.
The competition
In association with Carling, the official beer of the Premier League, we’re on the lookout for two Irish football teams to compete in a challenge match.
Both sides will prepare for the match with the help of one of the Premier League managers. We can’t guarantee they’ll sign you up as their new centre-forward, but you can certainly rely on tapping into some of their expert knowledge and experience.
Tim Sherwood was the man who gave Harry Kane his first Premier League start, and we hear he’s gone on to do alright for himself. During his tenure as manager of Leeds United, O’Leary never once finished below fifth in the Premier League.
The game will take place on 24 November, and teams from all over Ireland are welcome to apply. After the two sides have finished their game, they will head to an exclusive preview of that day’s Premier League game with Tim Sherwood and David O’Leary.
All you have to do to enter your team is fill in the form below. Tell us about your club, and maybe include a photo or video as well. The best entries will then be put through to the final round where we will choose our eventual winners.
We’re looking for teams who are up for a bit of craic, so don’t worry if you think your team wouldn’t be good enough. Just give us an idea of what you are about as a squad.
Entries close on Friday, 2 November.
As official beer supplier for the Premier League, Carling is offering you this amazing chance to be coached by one of the league’s managers. Follow Carling on Facebook to find out more.
