The Dane has been on fire this season.
Since joining Tottenham in 2013 Christian Eriksen has gone from strength to strength as a player. With each passing season, he’s improved more and then more again.
This year, however has been the Dane’s best so far. Take his performance against Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Take what he did to Ireland in the Aviva Stadium last November.
His performance against Juventus in Turin was a sign of a player who is ready to make the step up to the elite. The performance of a player who should be mentioned amongst the world best’s players in his position.
It feels like Eriksen has been on the scene for almost an eternity, but the man who was born in Middelfart, Denmark is still only 26 years old.
He plays the game like a player who’s seen it all, too.
The worry for Pochettino will be when big clubs come sniffing.
To keep a hold of Eriksen’s services he will have to get his Tottenham team into that elite bracket of clubs, but based on their performances in the Champions League this season, beating the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid and sticking it to Juventus the other night, they’re well capable of making that leap.
On the International stage Eriksen is Denmark’s main man. He was the central figure as they qualified for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
He scored eight goals in the campaign and his manager Age Hareide is well aware of the gem at his disposal.
“One of the world’s top 10 in his position,” he said after one of their games.
He could easily have went further.
At club level last season, he was rubbing shoulders with the best of them. This year he’s making even greater strides, with 10 goals and 7 assists to his name.
Eriksen is vital for Pochettino’s side, creating space and chances for Ali and Kane. His eye for a goal is keen, he is at the heart of everything good about their forward play.
Stats only really tell half the story, though.
All you’ve to do is watch what this man does on the biggest stages. Watch how he comes to life.
His understanding with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min is fantastic to watch. But make no mistake about it, he’s the main man supplying these lads with the ammunition they need. .
The North London club have to do everything in their power to keep the Danish international at the club with the likes of Juventus and Barcelona interested in his services.
The Danish Magician is contracted at Spurs until June 2020.
If he keeps up his good performances over the next couple of months, interest in him will just spread wider and wider.
