Jose Mourinho has got 75% of what he wants. He insists he is calm about getting everything he wants by the end of next month.
Many football fans may be tiring of the daily Paul Pogba transfer updates but Mourinho appears completely at ease with the protracted progress of a potential world record deal.
According to various reports, Pogba seems set to complete a Manchester United return in the coming days.
Asked about a deal for the French midfielder today, in China, Mourinho appeared confident of getting his way but spelled out a back-up plan if Pogba does not sign up for Europa League football.
The United board, Mourinho told reporters, did a fantastic job by getting him 75% of the players he sought.
The Portuguese revealed he had given the United board ‘a few options’ for each of the four positions he wanted filled. The club went out and secured the signatures of Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He continued:
“And you have just 25% to do until August 31. We are in great condition to have what I consider a good market. We are calm.
“We know the profile of the player we want We have three faces who fit that profile. I am really confident Mr [Ed] Woodward and the owners can get the profile of the player I think the squad needs.”
Pogba definitely fits the centre midfield leadership role that Mourinho has identified as key for his side’s future success.
It has previously been reported that Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko and PSG’s Blaise Matuidi were United targets. Both men would represent United’s Plan B and C should Pogba remain with Juventus or be snatched up by Real Madrid.
