The last thing Arsenal wanted was another match to cram up their schedule.
Still in the hunt for the Treble, Arsene Wenger was surely hoping his Arsenal side would roll over Hull City at the Emirates this afternoon.
Instead, The Tigers held Arsenal scoreless and almost nicked passage into the next round of the FA Cup.
A central figure in this afternoon’s game was Ireland international David Meyler. The Cork native hustled and harried from the first to the last whistle and certainly got under the Gunners’ skin.
Midway through the second-half, Meyley made a dicey challenge in his own box but scraped a stud on the ball and penalty appeals were waved away.
With 20 minutes to go, Meyler could have been a real hero as the ball dropped to him in the Arsenal box. He got a crisp shot away but it only managed to trouble the side netting [from the wrong side].
Over on Twitter, there was acclaim and disdain in equal measure for the midfielder.

Fantastic fight and grit , meyler was fantastic as well as all the defenders. Could have won it if the linesman could do his job.

When the dust settled, the Euros came into view and many called for Meyler to make the Irish squad this summer, including this wise soul.
