Brighton and Hove Albion aren’t giving up on Richie Towell just yet

He needs to prove himself now

Ben Kiely

Chris Hughton is set to keep the faith with Richie Towell.

It was all looking very grim for Richie Towell’s future with the Seagulls.

The 2015 PFAI Player of the Year has struggled at Falmer Staium since signing from Dundalk 18 months ago. Towell has only managed a few games in the FA Cup and has yet to make a league start for the club.

While it’s an exciting time for Brighton as they are set for Premier League football next season after claiming second spot in the Championship, Towell won’t be joining them in the English top flight. Seagulls boss Hughton confirmed during the week that Towell will be loaned back to a Championship club for the 2017/18 campaign.

Although he has failed to impress, or even get a chance to impress so far, his career in England has been handed a huge lifeline.

The Argus are reporting that Towell’s contract with Brighton has been extended for two years.

Although the plan to loan him out next season is on the cards, he will remain on their books until 2019. So while he’s not going to be in their immediate plans, Hughton certainly feels that he could be a long-term option.

Now, all he needs to do is seize the loan opportunity with both hands. Wherever he goes next, he has to impress.
