Brendan Rodgers gives Daniel Sturridge injury update

The striker hasn't played since August

The Liverpool manager says Daniel Sturridge remains on track for a return next month.

Brendan Rodgers is confident Daniel Sturridge will return to action in the new year. The striker is currently undertaking a rehabilitation programme with the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool owner John W. Henry’s baseball franchise. Sturridge is nursing a thigh injury and has had successive injury problems since been sidelined back in September after injuring his thigh on England duty. However, Rodgers, speaking to the press after his side’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal, is hopeful Sturridge is almost ready to get back playing.

The striker’s return ‘will probably be just after the Christmas period,’ Rodgers said. ‘The first phase of his rehab was out in LA where we did some specific work with him there. He’s gone to Boston to pick up the next stage, then he’ll move on again to a specialist facility out there and hopefully in the early part of the New Year he’ll be back and be somewhere close to being fit and playing’.

‘At some stage in January, we’ll look to get Dan back. That will be really exciting for this team. We’ll put him into the mix again and go back to that flow of our game and results, hopefully’.
