As managers around Europe prepare for the new season, there’s an awful lot of behind-the-scenes work to be done.
Most sides’ pre-season training got underway on Friday and in Andre Schubert’s first pre-season in charge of Borussia Mönchengladbach, he’s considering the candidates deserving of the captain’s armband.
Arsenal-bound Granit Xhaka skippered ‘Gladbach for the majority of last season and, for his replacement, Schubert is toying with the possibility of leaving it up to a player vote.

Mönchengladbach finished in fourth spot in the Bundesliga last season, securing a place in the Champions League play-offs and they will need a fearless leader to guide them in the absence of Xhaka and experienced defender Martin Stranzl, who intends to retire this summer.
