Borussia Dortmund defender gets day off to negotiate transfer, Liverpool and Arsenal fans get far too excited

Fair play to Borussia Dortmund, they don’t mess about.

While many clubs will not admit they have signed a player until the PR manager has signed off on the hashtag to accompany a tweet, Dortmund come right out with it.

The German club has lost Ilkay Gundogan, Mats Hummels and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in recent weeks and many of their other stars are highly sought-after.

Neven Subotic announced, last month, that he would be leaving the club this summer. This morning, Dortmund announced the central defender had been excused from training so he could negotiate with ‘a potential new club’.

The 27-year-old has played over 200 games for Dortmund but found himself on the bench all too frequently last season. While he was a favourite of old boss Jurgen Klopp, Dortmund’s current coach Thomas Tuchel is not as convinced.

Cologne were said to be in for the Serbian international but admitted paying anything over €10m would prove ‘difficult financially’.

Liverpool and Arsenal have both been linked with Subotic in recent weeks so, understandably, fans of the two clubs have been getting ahead of themselves.
