Chelsea offer Man United the chance to sign Ben Chilwell

Chilwell has been told that he has no future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have offered Manchester United the chance to sign Ben Chilwell, according to reports.

Chilwell, 27, has been told by Blues head coach Enzo Maresca that he will not be part of the squad for the Premier League season.

Maresca has said that the England left-back does not fit his preferred style of play, and he has opted for Marc Cucurella as his first-choice left-back.

Chilwell, like fellow England international Raheem Sterling, has been told that he can find a new club before the transfer window closes on August 30.

“We have a big squad and it’s impossible to give all of them minutes,” said the Italian coach, who joined Chelsea after guiding Leicester City to promotion last season.

“If they are looking for minutes it’s better for them to leave.

“I try to be honest. I spoke with Raheem (Sterling). before the Manchester City game.

“I said he will struggle to get minutes with us and this was the reason why he was out.

“And with Chilly (Chilwell), he’s a lovely guy, but I said he is going to struggle with his position. It’s not brutal, it’s just honest.”

The England defender is among 21 Chelsea players who have been told to train away from the first team.

Man United are reportedly in the market for a left-back as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are currently injured.

Noussair Mazraoui, who was signed from Bayern Munich ahead of the new season, can play as a left-back but is a natural right-back.

Diogo Dalot can also fill in at the position, but the Red Devils are currently without a fit first-team left-back.

Chilwell, who has two years left on his contract with Chelsea, could be a loan option for Erik ten Hag’s side.

The former Leicester defender has made 106 appearances for Chelsea and was part of the team that won the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel in 2021.

Meanwhile, the Blues are said to be interested in signing Jadon Sancho from Man United, and both clubs are expected to be busy before the window closes.
