BBC broadcaster’s apology for ‘overpaid nonces’ remark features another dig at England’s flops

Sorry, not sorry

Well that clears that up then.

Julia Hartley-Brewer was not having any of England’s Euro 2016 exit on Monday night.

The journalist and broadcaster was making one of her regular appearances on the BBC’s newspaper preview when she reacted caustically to the 2-1 exit made by Roy Hodgson’s men.

Hartley-Brewer was somewhat repentant on Tuesday but she did not entirely back down.

Well that’s that cleared up.

Hartley-Brewer’s clarified comments perfectly tally with the views expressed by former England defender Jamie Carragher, last night.

Meanwhile in England, there are strong suggestions that Gareth Southgate will be offered the role vacated by Hodgson on a temporary basis.

A host of papers – Sun, Star and Daily Express – are reporting that the English FA will ask Southgate to be caretaker boss while they wait for Arsene Wenger to see out a final season with Arsenal.

There may soon be clarity to the chaos.
