As the Americans would say, it has been a helluva few days.
First, Jurgen Klinsmann’s US team ambushed the Netherlands to snatch a dramatic 4-3 win on Saturday and last night, another late goal saw them upset Germany… IN GERMANY.
The American’s have really bought into whatever Klinsmann’s been selling – perhaps his faux-Californian accent has put his charges at ease. After Mario Gotze gave the world champions the lead in Cologne last night, the visitors equalised through Mix Diskerud before Bobby Wood scored this beauty to record a famous win.
It appears the Germans knew they were no match for the can-do American spirit though, as Bayern star Bastian Schweinsteiger was caught pouting despondently as the game entered its final stages.
You would have to say that Ireland’s group is now a three-way fight between Martin O’Neill’s men, Poland and Scotland. You can read a lot into that sad face.
