When Barcelona make their interest known, it usually ends one way.
The path from Anfield to the Nou Camp has been well worn by both Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez in recent years, and the club have still yet to fill the void vacated by Suarez.
The Uruguayan displayed phenomenal form during his final season on Merseyside, and, while no Liverpool player has come close to matching his exploits, Philippe Coutinho is now arguably the closest thing to a talisman for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Which is why Barcelona have reportedly approached Liverpool about potentially signing the player.According to The Sunday Times, Barcelona made their interest known when Liverpool were negotiating a move for Adama Traore, who subsequently signed for Aston Villa.
Coutinho’s current deal at Anfield runs until 2020, but he appears to be firmly on Barcelona’s radar.
Earlier this week Neymar cited the 23 year old as a potential Barca teammate, saying:Â “He’s a great player and he has Barcelona style.”
While Steven Gerrard revealed in his new autobiography how highly Suarez rates Coutinho.
“It struck a chord with me when Luis singled out Philippe as our most special young talent. It echoed my own view.”
