Arsene Wenger claims Mohamed Salah is the best striker in the world

Arsene Wenger has insisted that Mohamed Salah is ‘certainly’ the best striker in the world at the moment.

The Egyptian international scored twice as Liverpool secured a 3-2 victory in a thrilling Champions League encounter against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday night.

In doing so, he came the first player in the Reds’ history to score in nine consecutive appearances, whilst also becoming the club’s leading goalscorer in Champions League history.

Liverpool’s No 11 has made an electric start to the season, scoring 14 goals and grabbing four assists in the opening 11 games.

This has led to many people suggesting that he is currently the best player in the world, and former Arsenal boss Wenger certainly agrees with that argument.

“He’s top, top class and he’s certainly the best striker at the moment in the world because he scores goals that nobody else can score,” he said as he worked as a pundit for beIN Sports on Tuesday night.

“You have to play street football to dribble past people like that in a short space. He’s full of confidence and he’s creative.

“Overall, I believe as well that he is very intelligent because the sign of players that always improve is the intelligence.”

Although he has been nominated for this year’s Ballon d’Or, it is highly unlikely that the 29-year-old will win the prestigious award.

The Reds return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in what promises to be a mouthwatering clash.

Salah – who has scored 139 goals and registered 51 assists in 214 Liverpool appearances – will be keen to add to the four goals that he has already racked up against the Red Devils.
