Arsenal’s Champions League defeat set two very unwanted records

Disastrous night

Robert Redmond

This is peak Arsenal.

The Gunners lost 2-1 in their first Champions League game of the season to Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb. A result that would be a shock, if it wasn’t exactly the type of result Arsenal produce every so often.

Arsene Wenger’s side will now finish second in their group, behind Bayern Munich, and go out to Barcelona in the last-16 after producing an heroic second-leg display following a 3-1 loss at the Emirates in the first leg. Probably.

However, that’s all in the future, and tonight the Premier League side set two very unwanted records.

First, Arsene Wenger became the first manager to lose 50 Champions League games.

The Gunners were also the victims of a much more damning statistic.

That’s right, Arsenal are the first team to lose to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League group stages in 16 years.

Surely only the Gunners are capable of such a feat? We can’t wait for the reaction of the lads on Arsenal Fan Tv.
