The debate over the greatest goal-from-own-half of all time has received another candidate.
David Beckham set the standard in 1996.
Xabi Alonso perfected the technique during his time at Liverpool.
And Wayne Rooney made it look all the prettier by trying it on the half-volley.
But during a friendly on Tuesday morning between Greece and Australia, Greek midfielder Ioannis Maniatis went back to basics with a ridiculous effort from inside his own half.
Despite being closed down by three Australians, Maniatis found the space and time to glance up and spot the opposing goalkeeper miles off his line.
One perfectly-caught strike later and Adam Federici’s day was absolutely ruined.
