Alan Shearer trolls Robbie Savage after their latest BBC appearance

Poor 'Sav'

Patrick McCarry

There was no way Alan Shearer was letting this one go without passing comment.

Shearer was on BBC punditry duty for the FA Cup tie between Derby and Premier League champions Leicester last night.

Both sides played out a 2-2 draw, with Darren Bent’s shocking own goal the main, hilarious talking point.

That being said, Savage pushed Bent close with this comment:

Savage then had the nerve to throw himself into the conversation about resting top players for cup games. He declared:

“The great players are never rested. Messi, Ronaldo… I was never rested.”

Shearer held his tongue – or was more than likely gobsmacked – on the night but he was not holding back this morning.

When a Blackburn Rovers supporter not that the BBC was representing the side well by having two former players on, Shearer responded:

The former England captain scored 112 goals in 138 games for Rovers and helped them to the 1994/95 Premier League title. Savage played three years at Ewood Park and scored one goal in 76 appearances.

Shearer’s ever so gentle burn definitely got a lot of traction.

Some of it was gentle ribbing

Some of it was plain wrong

Savage is not going to let this one lie…
