Alan Browne continues remarkable form in front of goal

Destined for the Premier League?

Darragh Murphy

Supporters reckon Alan Browne is destined for the Premier League after the Irish midfielder continued his incredible form in front of goal on Saturday afternoon.

Browne opened the scoring for Preston North End in their Championship clash with Stoke City and has already bettered his return last season, netting his 10th goal of this campaign with four months of football left to play.

The Corkman found the net after latching on to a breaking ball and fired past Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland to give the visitors the lead.

Double figures from midfield is nothing to sneeze at, particularly in a league as fiercely competitive as the Championship and Preston fans reckon that it’s only a matter of time before Browne finds himself tormenting goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Browne has only made a handful of appearances for the Republic of Ireland but scored his first goal for the Boys in Green with a fine strike against Celtic in Scott Brown’s testimonial match last summer.

The 23-year-old, who was an understandable fan favourite at his time with Cork City, will surely play a significant role in Mick McCarthy’s plans moving forward.

Browne’s versatility ought to make him indispensable for McCarthy and, subsequently, Stephen Kenny but his future will almost certainly lie in attacking midfield if his performances this season are anything to go by.
