After being offloaded by Liverpool, Irish youngster is set for Championship lifeline

Daniel Cleary has reportedly found himself a new club.

After spending five years with Liverpool, the Irish defender was deemed surplus to requirements by Jurgen Klopp this summer and was in the hunt for a new team. Fortunately, it seems as though that search is over as HITC Sport are reporting that the 20-year-old is close to securing a deal with Championship outfit Birmingham. Cleary was snapped up by the Reds in 2011 after impressing for Crumlin United but never established himself as a first team option under Brendan Rodgers or Jurgen Klopp and the club decided against renewing the underage international's contract this summer, despite the undeniable potential owned by the centre-half. “He is very committed”, former Reds boss Rodgers said of Cleary.
