Mick McCarthy waits on Aaron Connolly scan following injury against Manchester United

Awh crap.

The FAI has said that striker Aaron Connolly is to undergo a scan following an injury picked up in Brighton’s 3-1 loss against Manchester United on Sunday.

Connolly was taken off after 45 minutes, while Mick McCarthy has said that the results of the scan won’t be available until Monday.

“Aaron will have a scan on Monday morning,” said McCarthy.

“Our medical team have been in contact with Brighton and when we have the results on Monday, we will know more.”

Although this is obviously worrying news for Ireland, the young Galway lad does have quite a bit of time to recover.

Ireland will play New Zealand in a friendly on Thursday, but the crucial match against Denmark is not until the Monday afterward.

And as anyone who has suffered an injury will know, every minute of recovery counts.

If we’re honest, we’d probably feel a little bit safer if he wasn’t risked against New Zealand anyway.

We’re sure McCarthy, along with every Irish football fan, will have his fingers crossed that the results of Connolly’s scan show nothing too serious.
