A Liverpool legend is eager to be part of Jurgen Klopp’s backroom team

Would this be a good move?

Who wouldn’t want God putting out the cones?

Robbie Fowler can do no wrong in the eyes of Liverpool fans.

And now the man they call God wants to be part of the coaching set-up under whoever it is who replaces Brendan Rodgers as manager at Anfield.

That replacement is looking increasingly likely to be Jurgen Klopp, with the former Borussia Dortmund coach tipped to sign a three-year deal before the weekend.

Klopp is expected to bring trusted lieutenants  Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz with him to Anfield, but there have been rumours that the club may appoint someone with closer connections to Liverpool as part of the coaching set-up.

Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have been two of the names mentioned, but now Fowler has thrown his hat into the ring.

Appointing a legend to the coaching staff is not without precedence at Liverpool.

Gerard Houllier brought in Phil Thompson as part of his coaching team when he took over sole charge of the club in 1999, while just last summer Rodgers added Gary McAllister to his set-up as part of his summer reshuffle.

McAllister remains at the club so presumably he too will be in the running should owners FSG decide the new manager needs a local connection on his coaching team.
