37-year-old Gianluigi Buffon sounds hopeful that he will end his career in the Premier League

Where would he go?

We just can’t picture Gianluigi Buffon’s name on a Premier League teamsheet.

The Italian legend has spent his entire 20 year career in Serie A but has always been a huge fan of England’s top flight.

You’d have thought that retirement would be floating around the legendary stopper’s mind as he approaches his 38th birthday but Buffon seems genuinely hopeful that he will get the chance to frustrate strikers in the Premier League.

Juventus v FC Barcelona - UEFA Champions League Final

The Italy captain spoke to the media ahead of Juventus’ Champions League home tie with Sevilla on Wednesday and he revealed that the opportunity may be open to him.

“I would have loved to have played in the Premier League. I have spent 10 years at Parma, 15 at Juventus and I think I still have around two and a half years left at the top. There still may be an opportunity.”

But where would he go for those two years?

Would he be happy to sit on the Chelsea bench for a bucketload of money? Would he be a stopgap for Manchester United if David De Gea moves to Real Madrid? Would he be content to spend 24 months mopping up Dejan Lovren’s mistakes?

Only time will tell.
