The Belfast native recorded a comfortable win

Paddy Barnes won his World Series of Boxing bout earlier today.

Fighting in Baku, Azerbaijan the light-flyweight won by unanimous decision against Magomed Ibiyev, with the judges scoring the bout 49-46,49-46,50-54.

The Belfast fighter, and SportsJOE contributor, was the only member of his team to record a victory. Michael Conlon lost his bout but Irish head coach Billy Walsh was happy with his boxers’ performances.

‘A very good performance from Paddy, tremendous pace, accuracy and dominance. We thought he won every round’, said Walsh.

‘Michael performed tremendously given that this is his first fight back since his hand injury. He had a fantastic first round and we thought he won three of the rounds. It was very tight against a tough opponent’.

Hat-tip to IABA.
