There’ll be no rematch of the 2012 Olympic final for Taylor, but the Bray fighter remains on course for a 5th successive gold medal at the championships

Katie Taylor has received a walkover into the semi-finals of the AIBA World Women’s Elite Championships in South Korea. The Olympic gold medalist was due to face Sofya Ochigava, the fighter she defeated in the 2012 Olympic final, in the quarter finals of the tournament later this morning. However, the Russian fighter is believed to have picked up an injury in her previous bout and has pulled out of the quarter-final. Taylor is now guaranteed at least bronze and will face southpaw Jinhua Yin in the semi-finals on Sunday. The Chinese fighter defeated Bulgaria’s Denista Eliseeva this morning at around 6am Irish time.
