It sounds like Andy Lee v Gennady Golovkin isn’t a million miles away

This would be massive

Andy Lee could be in for a tough few fights.

Presuming he beats Billy Joe Saunders when their WBO middleweight title fight eventually takes place, the most feared man at 160 lbs could well be on the horizon for the Limerick fighter.

Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin is 33-0 with 30 of those victories coming by way of knockout and the Kazakh boxer already has Andy Lee in his thoughts.

WBA champion GGG takes on IBF champion David Lemieux on October 17 and is also the mandatory challenger for the winner of WBC decider between Miguel Cotto v Saul Alvarez and if he wins both those bouts, there will be just one belt remaining for Golovkin.

Golovkin’s promoter recently responded to claims from WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward that GGG was avoiding a fight with the Son of God.

Tom Loeffler told the LA Times that Golovkin has his sights set on unifying his current division before he thinks about moving up to take on Ward.

That means that a meeting with current WBO champion Andy Lee is in the offing in what would be one of the biggest fights for Ireland in years.
