Self-awareness doesn’t seem to be Robson Sharuko’s strong point.
The Irish public, and the world of cricket emphatically rounded on the Zimbabwe Herald reporter yesterday, after his sickening comments on Ireland’s John Mooney yesterday.
Sharuko questioned Mooney’s integrity, citing his struggles with depression and alcoholism, and the deeply personal attack was widely condemned, with Zimbabwe’s wicketkeeper Brendan Taylor publicly showing his support to the Irishman.
On behalf of the Zimbabwe cricket team.We just want to express our apologies to @Irelandcricket and John Mooney for the unacceptable article
— Brendan Taylor (@BrendanTaylor86) March 11, 2015
You would expect then, that Sharuko would be groveling in his apology, but instead the journalist had gone back on the attack, obliviously criticising the “vicious attack” on his character by Irish media outlets.
“The dramatic fallout related to Ireland’s controversial win over Zimbabwe continued to play out with Irish cricket authorities launching a vicious attack on The Herald for questioning all-rounder John Mooney’s honesty.”
The author then went on to quote extracts from articles in the Irish Independent and Irish Examiner, which defended the Dubliner.
The word you are looking for is “Shameless”.
