They make them tough down in the south-east.
And luckily for Sam Bennett he is made of the right stuff as the young rider was taken out of it in a pile-up in the closing stages of ’s Tour of Qatar sprint finish earlier this afternoon.
The incident took place towards end of stage two of the event when the road split in two, with a massive concrete kerb dividing the riders into two separate groups.
Some riders clearly failed to see the dangerous obstacle however, and ploughed straight into it as riders headed towards the finish at speeds of up to 40kph.
Mark Cavendish, who was leading at the time, escaped the carnage while he just missed out on the stage win to Alexander Kristoff.
Bennett was understood to have avoided serious injury and it’s hoped the Bora-Argon 18 rider will be able to take part in tomorrow’s action.
Sam Bennett and Rüdiger Selig look ok. Several abrasions but no major injuries. We hope both can race tomorrow again.
