Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin was taken to hospital as a precaution
Rarely does a week go by without a concussion incident to discuss in the world of sport and the latest one comes all the way from Australia. Three-time top goal scorer in the AFL and one of the biggest if not the biggest in the game Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin was involved in a brutal, accidental, clash of heads with a Sydney Swans team-mate at the weekend.
Playing a pre-season game against Greater Western Sydney, Franklin ran into team-mate Gary Rohan and was knocked out cold.
Franklin lay motionless for a few seconds but he eventually came around and after being substituted he was sent to hospital to be checked out.
Swans general manager Tom Harley updated the situation in the press today.
“Buddy’s good. He went to hospital purely for precautionary reasons,” Harley said.
“He had a good night’s sleep. It is a heavy concussion but he’ll be fine.
“There’s no facial injuries whatsoever. It’s standard concussion … not having a game this week he’ll have plenty of time to recover and be ready for round one.”
Round One of the AFL season bounces off on April 4 and it is great to hear that Franklin has been cleared to play in that game.
