A wonderful tribute to the Australian cricket star who died so tragically last year
Even six weeks on from his death it is hard to believe that Phillip Hughes is gone. The passing of the 26-year-old following a blow to the head while playing a match at the Sydney Cricket Ground caused an outpouring of grief not just in Australia but around the world.
Today, the Australian Test side play their first game at the SCG since Hughes’ death, the fourth Test against India, and the SCG Trust have unveiled a plaque the commissioned in tribute to the batsman.

The plaque sits right outside the home dressing room and Australia captain Steve Smith believes it is a fitting tribute to their former team-mate.
“I think it’s great that the Trust has been able to do something like that for us,” he said on ABC.
“We’ve just to make sure we’re very respectful to the Hughes family that are going to be down here for this Test match.
“I think that’s very important to us and very important to them. Hughesy was one of us, he was a good mate.
“To be able to walk past that and see the little fella … it’ll give us some inspiration as we’re going out on the field.”
