Team Ireland’s Annalise Murphy is leading the pack in the women’s laser radial.
Murphy was in second place heading into the third round of races after finishing fourth and seventh respectively in races three and four on Tuesday.
The Dubliner had another great result in race five, crossing the line in a very respectable fifth place. The result saw her close the gap on leader and reigning Olympic champion Lijia Xu, who finished in eighth, 35 seconds behind Murphy.
Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands’ win saw her overtake Murphy in the leaderboard, meaning Murphy dropped down into third heading into race six.

The sixth race was real epic, but Murphy sailed hard to take second place just behind Anne-Marie Rindom of Denmark. It was neck and neck between Murphy and the Dane for a large portion of the race, but Rindom pulled away at the last leg. The result means that Murphy heads into Friday’s races in poll position.
After today’s sailing, we’ve past the halfway point in the event. There’s still four more races left to go before the decisive medals race on Monday.
