Divine inspiration may not even save them
It doesn’t seem like Jesus is a fan of the Hampton Pirates. The college basketball side enjoyed a 74-64 First Four win over Manhattan on Tuesday night which means they’lll now face the best team in the country, the Kentucky Wildcats on Thursday.
Before Tuesday’s game Pirates coach Edward Joyner joked that he had Jesus on speed-dial to ring for advice before big games, and he showed journalists his special relationship with God at his post match-press conference with a fake call to the Son of God.
After he saw his team win to book a place against Kentucky, he was asked if he would be looking for some divine inspiration and intervention in order to win in Louisville. So in order to answer the question, he pretended to ring Jesus, but when he asks about the Pirates chances the phone line in heaven seems to go dead.
Excellent work-apart from holding the phone the wrong way which does stain the gag at little bit-but still a serious tip of the hat to a coach who clearly has a good sense of humour. He’s going to need it too facing an undefeated and top ranked side tomorrow.
