Rene Rivera of the Tampa Bay Rays won't live this down any time soon.
The looked full of despair as he watched the ball arrive at second base eons before he could waddle his way to the plate. In a feeble attempt to... eh, we're not quite sure what he was trying to do, he decided to call his snail's pace run to a halt by starting a slide ludicrously early.
Unsurprisingly, Rivera's slide came up embarrassingly short, meaning the second baseman had to wait until Rivera came closer until he could tag him out.
It's a far cry from that magnificent slide tackle from Sol Campbell which, despite popular belief, did end eventually. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7Rnt5C2qaQ Hat-tip to Bleacher Report
