72-9.
The Golden State Warriors have history within their grasp.
A 92-86 win over the San Antonio Spurs last night saw Stephen Curry and company collect their 72nd victory of an incredible season, tying a mark held by the Chicago Bulls squad of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen that was thought to be untouchable.
With the season winding down and recent defeats by Boston and Minnesota cutting their margin for error in their chase of the Bulls’ mark, it looked like they might fall just short with a pair of final week games against the 65-win San Antonio Spurs, themselves a historically significant unit.
But the defending champs have refused to give up on the record and not only defeated their main rivals for the title last night, but ended San Antonio’s hopes of going the entire season unbeaten at home.
MVP Curry had 37 of his side’s 92 points on 13-22 shooting, but his most impressive shot was one that didn’t even count.

The Warriors can now claim the record for themselves with a win in their final game of the season, at home to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
