Despite his popularity with supporters, it seems Anthony Martial’s Manchester United future is far from certain.
The French international made an instant impact at Old Trafford, marking his home debut against bitter rivals Liverpool with a points-clinching late goal in September 2015.
After going on to establish himself as a regular starter that season, he endured a difficult second campaign at the club under Jose Mourinho. Moved to the left wing to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who also took the number nine shirt he had worn during his first year in England, Martial appeared frequently as a substitute.
Although things have improved this season, he’s still had to share the left wing berth with Marcus Rashford and – more recently – Alexis Sanchez. With his United contract due to expire in 2019, some reports have claimed he may be tempted to move on from Old Trafford.
Juventus have been credited with interest in the player, with Pavel Nedved – now the Italian champions’ vice president – holding discussions about a possible move Martial in London last week.
Premium Sport have reported this, but also claim that United are unlikely to entertain offers of anything below €65m (£57.4m). The fact that they might be willing to listen to offers, however, is significant.
Juve appear keen to sign him, despite the price tag. Massimiliano Allegri is said to be a huge admirer of the player and views him as an important signing.
