Welsh legend makes inevitable, depressing call after Lions defeat

We really hope this doesn't happen

Martyn Williams wants Peter O’Mahony dropped.

Wales’ most capped forward Martyn Williams has called for Sam Warburton to replace Peter O’Mahony in the Lions next test against the All Blacks after Saturday’s loss in Eden Park.

“I think the back row, as well as that unit has gone warming up, I don’t think it quite worked tonight,” said Williams.

The Welsh man was then asked if he would drop Sean O’Brien for Sam Warburton.

How could it even be questioned that the Carlow man would be dropped?

“There’s no way you can drop Sean O’Brien. Sean O’Brien has got to start somewhere whether it’s six or seven, whether they go left or right, him and Sam,” added the 41-year-old.

Williams went on to reveal he would start Warburton in the back row alongside Sean O’Brien and Toby Faletau which would leave no place for Saturday’s captain Peter O’Mahony.

“I do think they need to slow the All Blacks ball down which they didn’t tonight. They won a few turnovers but I just think you need the physical presence maybe of a Sam Warburton, O’Brien together alongside Faletau,” added Williams.

It’s a sad state of affairs that O’Mahony could be dropped for the next test considering he lead the team today. Gatland substituted the Munster man after 53 minutes, however, and you wouldn’t be surprised if he opted for the Welsh man ahead of the Irish man.

Williams went on to claim that Maro Itoje should be starting in the next test against the All Blacks and that English man Courtney Lawes should be drafted into the panel.
