Great big liathroidi of steel
By our reckoning it’s only two full days since the end of the rugby season proper around these parts, but there’s no time to get too withdrawn from the crunch of man-on-man at scrum time.
Luckily for us the Under-20 World Cup is up and running, and we can get ourselves settled in on the couch for the next few weeks as Ireland look to make a big impression in Italy.
The stars of the future are on show and today a young man by the name of Tomas Quinlan may have just announced himself to the wider rugby public with a wonderful last minute pressure kick to secure a win on day one.
Ireland were facing Argentina in Parma, and in a very tight game there was barely a handful of points between the sides during the 80 minutes until Argentina scored a penalty with two minutes to go to lead by 16-15.
It looked like it would be a cruel loss for the men in green until Ireland won a penalty on the right hand touchline.
Quinlan, making his international debut and on as a replacement, slotted it over at his ease and Ireland won by a nerve shredding 18-16.
Check out the kick from the Munster man below.

Unfortunately, Quinlan is not in the starting Irish XV to play Scotland, on Saturday. Once again, he starts on the bench for Nigel Carolan’s side.
