Simon Zebo entered 2016/17 brimful of hope.
The Munster winger may have to watch several weeks of it from the sidelines.
Zebo was helped off the Parc Y Scarlets pitch after only 18 minutes of the Guinness PRO12 opener, against Scarlets.
The fullback sustained a blow to the ribs when he chased back to touch down a Liam Williams grubber kick over his own tryline. Williams’ knee collided with Zebo’s ribs but he carried on after receiving treatment.
He looked to be in some discomfort as the game progressed but soldiered on.
However, after taking his first bit of heavy contact, Zebo’s race was run. It initially looked as if he had damaged his ankle but the medics treated his injured ribs before opting to take him off.
Munster’s record try-scorer was distraught – appearing close to tears – as he was helped from the field of play.

A medical update will be issued in the coming days but Zebo will be hoping not to be out for too long. He missed Ireland’s tour to South Africa after undergoing keyhole surgery on his knee during the summer.
