“A hip hop, hippie to the hippie the hip, hip a hop, and you don’t stop…”
A man of considerable talent on the rugby field, Munster and Ireland rugby star Simon Zebo wouldn’t be a man that would be found wanting when a singsong breaks out.
Zebo has showcased his impressive musical chops on a number of occasions in the past, whether it be taking to the decks in Cork, doing his own version of Carpool Karaoke with Francis Saili or memorably lip-syncing to Jay-Z and Kanye West with Irish teammate Paddy Jackson.
Obviously well aware of his abilities, Ray D’Arcy challenged Zebo to rap the lyrics to the intro of ‘Rapper’s Delight’ by The Sugarhill Gang during an interview on his show on RTÉ Radio One on Tuesday.
As anyone who’s heard the song (in fairness, who hasn’t?), the lyrics at the start pose quite the challenge to even the most accomplished of speakers, but this wasn’t Zebo’s first rodeo and he knocked it out of the park.
