This was not the plan. Not at all.
Wales followed up their weekend loss to New Zealand by getting hammered 40-7 by Super Rugby’s Chiefs.
Warren Gatland fielded a mix of fringe players and experienced heads such as Sam Warburon and Luke Charteris but it was to no avail.
The Chiefs tore into their guests from the get-go and were 21-0 up at the break. Wales responded with a try after the break but fell away badly in the closing stages.
One of the worst moments arrived with five minutes to go as replacement flanker Taleni Seu nutmegged Welsh winger Tom James to set up the Chiefs’ fifth try of the night.
Sky Sport TV, and their eagle-eyed cameraman, definitely enjoyed it too much.

It got worse for Wales as they conceded another try at the death.
Up next… the All Blacks on Saturday.
