Ireland sevens winger Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe’s 75 metre try against Fiji on Friday looked like it had all the hallmarks of a fairly standard Sevens try.
Crowe picked up the ball just outside her 22 and froze her defender with a quick stutter step before getting on the outside and sprinting her way towards the try line, a fairly common occurrence in Sevens rugby.

Crowe looked set to cross the line untouched until the Fijiana cover defender ran her down 10 metres from the whitewash.
Not to be deterred, Crowe continued to power her way through the tackle, and literally dragged her would be tackler over the five-metre line as she reached out to score a brilliant try.
Ireland qualified for the quarter-final stages on day one despite Pool stage losses to Russia and Canada.
Ireland’s narrow 17-14 victory over Fiji was enough to see Anthony Eddy’s side through to the quarter-finals where they will face New Zealand, who breezed their way through Pool B with three wins from three.
