#BenBoticaWTF was trending on Twitter, this evening, after Harlequins lost the European Challenge Cup final against Montpellier.
Trailing 29-9 with 10 minutes to go, Quins did not give up.
Instead, they scored a superb try, through Marland Yarde, and gave themselves a chance to take the game to extra time after a 77th minute penalty.
Conor O’Shea’s side lost the restart to wrestled back possession with six seconds left of normal time. As the clock ticked red, they were still in their half but in with a shot.
Then, Ben Botica stepped up. The Kiwi, who is Montpellier-bound next season, lost the run of himself, the game and the situation.
He hacked the ball 50 metres up the pitch and there was no chance he or his teammates would reach it. Jesse Mogg plucked the ball up and hoofed it out.
Ben Botica kicks away possession and any hope of @QuinsRugbyUnion lifting @ERChallengeCup. What was he thinking? https://t.co/nFlegkZIQ3

As the final whistle sounded, Twitter lit up.
Everyone was confused. From old pros…
