Vine: This is why props should never try drop goals

Stick to the scrums

Ben Kiely

Sadly, this is actually one of the better prop drop goal attempts in the history of the sport

When it comes to rugby, players should really stick to what they’re genetically designed to do. There’s a reason why forwards tend not to be good kickers and by the same token, you wouldn’t want a scrawny scrum-half playing the role of a hooker in a scrum.

This clip really illustrates why props should not try kicks at goal. Check out how Sale prop Vadim Cobilas pounces on a loose ball during his side’s Premiership clash with Bath and has a drop at goal. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t quite come off.
