Finally, Paul O’Connell has been immortalised forever in statue form.
A statue of Ireland’s greatest living human was unveiled at Shannon Airport on Friday.
The six-metre sculpture captures an epic O’Connell moment during Ireland’s 43-13 annihilation of England in Croke Park during 2007’s Six Nations championship. The statue shows O’Connell being lifted high by his fellow Munster team mates Donnacha O’Callaghan and John Hayes to win a line out.
The historic match was memorable marked the first time Ireland played England in Croke Park after the ban on non-GAA sports that had been in place for decades was lifted.
