Wales will have some representation in Saturday’s Rugby World Cup final after Nigel Owen was chosen to officiate.
The Welshman is widely considered to be the best referee in the game at the moment and his selection for the final is a just reward for years of outstanding performances.
Owens has said before that if no one notices him, he’s done a good job. But the people of his home village of Mynyddcerrig (try saying that after a few drinks, or even sober) in Carmarthenshire have made a touching tribute to their most famous son.
Had a tear to my eye seeing this. People of Mynyddcerrig my home village you make me so proud of where I am from. pic.twitter.com/c41f2HWkhd

Coming from a council estate as well as being openly gay, Owens may seem an unlikely choice for the best referee in the world. But he has always displayed an outright pride in who he is – and it’s a nice touch to see locals show their pride too.
Never ever forget where u have come from. Am a council estate boy born & bred & proud of it. Mynyddcerrig nice touch pic.twitter.com/zijJjYNyQh
