The breakfast choices on offer to the Irish Rugby team have made us extremely jealous

No Coco Pops though

Patrick McCarry

This morning, we had to settle for Weetbix [proper spelling] and soya milk.

Ireland will hope that this morning’s grub amounts to the breakfast of champions.

Joe Schmidt’s men take on South Africa at DHL Newlands Stadium, this afternoon, and they will need every last ounce of energy to see them through the full 80.

Ireland have never beaten the Springboks away from Dublin but the First Test against Allister Coetzee’s charges is seen as their best chance to make history.

Schmidt has selected as strong an XV as he believes possible, although many Connacht supporters would disagree with that. Nonetheless, the entire nation will be cheering them on come kick-off.

Ahead of the game, Ireland fuelled up for battle with a mighty breakfast.

Nutrition is seen as one of those one-percenters in modern rugby and, given the choice available, Ireland have this base covered.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Iain Henderson went through the entire breakfast bounty on offer.

Let’s hope Ireland enjoy the post-match dinner as much as breaking their fast.
